Everything else pales in comparison to this. Most people dream about winning the lottery. Or wish they could strike oil in the backyard or that they had a rich relative to leave them a huge estate. If only they knew about this. I even love the sound of it rolling off my tongue. Heir of the world. That’s what I am as a believer in the Lord Jesus Christ. Heir of the world. The earth is the Lord’s and the fullness thereof. He created all things and they all belong to Him. When He died on the cross to atone for my sins, He did so much more for me. He also decided to leave all that He has to His family members. This promise was first given to Abraham and was to include all his seed. “And if ye be Christ's, then are ye Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise” (Galatians 3:29). Because we belong to Christ, we are Abraham’s seed. That makes us an heir according to the promise. Since the Lord made many promises to Abraham, what is the promise spoke of here? We discover the answer in Romans 4: 13 “For the promise, that he should be the heir of the world, was not to Abraham, or to his seed, through the law, but through the righteousness of faith.” THE promise was that Abraham and all his seed would be heir of the world. Please note that the inheritance would not be by any merit or works done on the part of the heir, but would instead be through the righteousness of faith. That means the devil can’t talk you out of what is rightfully yours since you didn’t earn it to begin with. You receive it like all other inheritances are received. The rightful owner wills it to you upon His death. As a son of God, you are the legitimate heir. What exactly are you heir of? The world! That can mean different things so let’s be perfectly clear on this. In the original Greek text the word world is kosmos, which is defined as: the whole circle of earthly goods, endowments, riches, advantages, pleasures. That is your inheritance in Christ. I plan to leave an inheritance for my children when I’m gone. Why? Because I love them, I want them to enjoy the things I have and there is even an element of remembering me in them. We make no apologies for accepting our inheritance from our heavenly Father. He loves us, He wants us to enjoy all good things (I Timothy 6:17) and they remind us of Him. If you haven’t already, join with Abraham and claim your inheritance just like he did. By faith.
